University of Bristol MSc Program Field Trip to Italy

7 – 10 April, 2024

Dr. Raffaele De Risi, Senior Lecturer in the School of Civil, Aerospace and Design Engineering (CADE) at the University of Bristol and Director of the MSc in Earthquake Engineering and Infrastructure Resilience programme, together with Professor Anastasios Sextos (ASSISi Greece and UK Regional Coordinator), led their current cohort of ten students on a fantastic field trip to Italy.

The trip included visits to L’Aquila and the Emiciclo Building, the headquarters of the Abruzzo regional government, a cultural heritage building that was retrofitted with seismic isolation after the 2009 L’Aquila earthquake (project undertaken by ASSISi Corporate Member SOMMA International); to  Rome to see various infrastructure projects underway for the 2025 Vatican Jubilee Year; and to Pavia and Eucentre where they saw the extensive laboratory facilities, including large test machines for the testing and certification of seismic isolation and damping devices.
