The 72nd ISO TC45 Meeting was held in Nara, Japan from 21-25 October, 2024. TC 45, Rubber and Rubber Products is one of the oldest ISO technical committees, established in 1947, and nowadays comprises four sub-committees (SCs), 22 working groups (WGs), and has more than 200 members. SC4/WG9, Elastomeric Isolators, has operated for about 20 years, and the current convenor is Dr. Nobuo Murota, ASSISi Regional Coordinator for Japan. Past members of WG9 have included Professor James Kelly, UC Berkeley, and Dr. Keith Fuller, ASSISi past president. Over the years, WG9 has developed a total of seven standards or technical reports in the ISO 22762 Standard series – described in Dr. Murota’s article in ASSISi’s Technical Articles series.
The WG9 meeting was held on October 23, and attendees included U.S. delegate Dr. Ian Aiken, ASSISi President, and China delegates Professor Ping Tan, ASSISi Regional Coordinator, and Professor Yangyang Chen, ASSISi Member. On October 22, Dr. Aiken also gave a lecture to the entire TC45 membership on “The Performance of Elastomeric Seismic Isolators in Recent Major Earthquakes”.
