The STTP/FDP (Short-Term Training Program / Faculty Development Program) on Structural Resilience of High-Rise Buildings and Bridges was a six-day event organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Vidyavaridhi’s College of Engineering and Technology, Vasai, and affiliated with Mumbai University. The STTP/FDP target audience was a variety of stakeholders including academics, design engineers, architects, members from regulatory authorities/ bodies, government officials, owners/developers as well as contractors.
ASSISi Regional Coordinator for India, Professor Vasant Matsagar, Dogra Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Delhi, was the keynote speaker on Day Two. His session on Earthquake Engineering and Remedial Measures (Base Isolation) was an insightfulsession on resilience techniques, and gave participants a comprehensive understanding of base isolation methods.
Spanning three hours, key topics included: principles of base isolation, types of seismic isolation systems, design methodologies, case studies, and challenges in implementation. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A that ranged from the cost implications of base isolation to the use of advanced materials like graphene in isolation systems.
