University of Bristol MSc Program Field Trip to Italy

L’Aquila and Rome, Italy
6 – 9 April, 2025

Dr. Raffaele De Risi, Senior Lecturer in the School of Civil, Aerospace and Design Engineering (CADE) at the University of Bristol and Director of the MSc in Earthquake Engineering and Infrastructure Resilience programme, together with Professor Anastasios Sextos (ASSISi Greece and UK Regional Coordinator), led their current cohort of ten students on a fantastic field trip to Italy as part of their masters degree program.

The trip included visits to L’Aquila to see the retrofitting of the San Bernardino Convent and a residential building, both of which were damaged in the 2009 L’Aquila earthquake; and Rome to visit the headquarters of the INGV, the sports hall designed by Pier Luigi Nervi, and to see the retrofitting of a university (La Sapienza) building  with base isolation  (isolators provided by ASSISi Corporate Member SOMMA International). This marks the tenth year that the field trip has been part of the MSc program and it is planned to continue in the future.
